What is a dental implant?

A dental implant is a small anchor, that is inserted into the jawbone to take the place of your missing tooth root. A prosthetic replacement tooth is then secured to the top of the implant will be able to start eating as you did before missing your teeth.  Dental implants offer a more permanent solution for replacing lost teeth.

What are my options instead of dental implants?

Before dental implants, we were limited in how we were able to replace missing teeth. Options included fixed bridges, which often required the reduction of adjacent teeth to replace a missing tooth, or removable dentures. Implant dentistry allows us to replace individual teeth, without altering adjacent natural teeth. Dental implants help retain jawbone and anchor dentures, bridges and crowns firmly in place!

How does dental implants work?

A dental implant is like an artificial tooth root that takes over the function of a real root  made of titanium. When a natural root is lost, it can be replaced with a dental implant.  They are very durable and are well accepted by the human body. After dental implants are placed and the jawbone has healed, permanent teeth can be built on top of them: crown, bridge…

How does the titanium attach to the bone ?

Implantology is based on “osseointegration,” which is an incredibly strong bonding of titanium and other materials to the surrounding bone. This allows the new replacement tooth or teeth, to not only have a very strong, stable, and long-lasting base, but also to enjoy all the comfort, functionality, and beauty of healthy teeth. This process lasts three months.

How many steps does the dental implant procedure involve?

  1. Pre-implant Consultation Apponitment

The dentist will take a detailed dental history, study x-rays, CT scan and complete a thorough oral examination to confirm if the patient is suitable for the procedure

  1.  Placing the Implant

This is usually done in the clinic, under local ansesthesia, any time after the initial oral examination. After surgery, there is a healing period of approximately three months for the bone to bond to the implant, a process known as osseointegration. Temporary replacement teeth can be used immediately after this procedure.

  1.  New Teeth

The dentist will make an impression and then fabricate the natural looking, strong and functional teeth, that will be attached to the implants. We work directly with one of the best lab in Madrid, and the prosthetic will come to see the patient directly in the dental office and and start to design the best teeth that suits to her smile and face. What most people don´t know is that make new natural  teeth  is like a sculpture , is very different in each person, and has to be done milimetricly to achieve the best smile of each of  patients

  1. Follow Up Care

Dental implants require the same maintenance as real teeth, including flossing,  brushing and regular dental check-ups. Periodic follow-up visits will be scheduled to monitor the implants, teeth and gums to make sure they are healthy.

What are the benefits of having dental implants ?

Esthetic.: We can have excelent results with the same esthetic of natural teeth with the dental implant retorations.  Also when teeth are missing, the surrounding bone begins to shrink and thhis bone loss can make your jawline recede. Implant dentistry can help prevent deterioration of the jawbone caused by loss of teeth, so your face retains its natural shape.

Comfort:
Because dental implants are securely anchored, there is no slipping or movement as there is with dentures. This eliminates some of the big worries of the patients with  dentures, including poor fit, gum irritation, and pain from exposed nerves.

Increase Confident: With dental implants, you'll never need to cover your mouth when laughing, smiling, or speaking. You can eat your favorite foods without pain or fear of embarrassment. You will look better, feel better, and live more confidently.

Long lasting treatment

Why Computer Guided Dental Implant Surgery ?

We use computer guided implant surgery, with CT scan,  cause we bealive that  it’s a big step  in the replacement of teeth with dental implants visualizing the exact placement in three dimentions . This eliminates the guesswork involved, determining what parts of the jawbone offer the best sites for dental implant placement. It also allows the dentist to create the permanent restoration prior to surgery and place the restoration the day of the surgery. Computer guided implant surgery provides greater patient satisfaction and simplifies the dental implant treatment process.

When will I be able to resume daily activities?

Most of our patients can resume normal daily activities on the same day. Some may choose to take it easy for a day or two - it is a matter of personal choice. You can return to work, go shopping, eat, talk on the telephone and/or have a reasonable dinner the same day

Will I be in pain after the dental implant surgery?

Nowadays implant procedures are painless. Under a little local anesthesia, the procedures are carried out pain free. However, it is essential to take the medicine we prescribe for you during the post-treatment period, which ensures painless recovery

What will happen if I don´t have enough bone for dental implants ?

Unfortunatly when you loose a tooth, in a short period of time, the jawbone associated with missing teeth atrophies or is reabsorbed. This often leaves a condition in which there is poor quality and quantity of bone suitable for placement of dental implants. In these situations, most patients are not candidates for placement of dental implants .Now with Bone Grafting, we have the ability to grow bone where needed. This gives us the opportunity to place implants of proper length and width. Sinus lift bone grafts are also performed to replace bone in the posterior upper jaw. In addition, special membranes may be utilized that dissolve under the gum and protect the bone graft and encourage bone regeneration. If enough bone between the upper jaw ridge and the bottom of the sinus is available to stabilize the implant well, sinus augmentations and implant placement can sometimes be performed as a single procedure.
After several months of healing, the graft will have to mature, depending upon the type of graft material used, and  the bone becomes part of the patient’s jaw. Dental implants can be inserted and stabilized in this new bone.

How long will the dental implants last?

Long-term, peer-reviewed scientific studies from various institutions since 1965 have shown approximately a 95% success rate for dental implants over 10 years of time. A good oral hygiene routine followed by regular hygienist and dental check-ups will ensure that your implants last for many years. The long term success rate of implants is exceptionally high and implants are regarded as the “gold standard” dental treatment for many missing tooth scenarios
